HOUSE FIRE CAUSES NO INJURIES
Mobile Firefighters responded to a house fire reported shortly after 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2001. When firefighters arrived at the one story concrete block structure located at 517 Yuckers Street they reported flames visible coming from the side of the structure. Shirley Parker, 52, was home with her 5 children and grandchildren when she woke up to a popping noise, felt the heat and smelled of smoke. Parker got up and discovered fire in a rear bedroom and immediately rushed the 3 girls and 2 boys out of the structure to safety. Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly preventing its spread throughout the structure. The fire appears to have started near a wall in the rear bedroom and extended out a nearby window. There was smoke and some heat damage throughout. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious. Estimated damage is $20 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 8, 14, 21, truck 17, rescue 14 and District 1 Chief Ed Salva responded.
