Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE ON GARNETT AVENUE Firefighters responded to the report of a house fire located in the 100 block of Garnett Avenue on Saturday afternoon, May 26. The fire was reported at approximately 3:12 p.m. and firefighters arrived shortly after reporting a fire in the rear of the single-story rental house. Once firefighters gained entry they discovered fire coming from a bedroom and quickly extinguished it. The occupants were not home at the time of the fire. The fire originated in a rear bedroom, spread to the outside of the structure through two windows. The interior of the house had varying degrees of smoke and heat damage. The cause is currently under investigation. Damage is estimated at $35 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 3, 8, 12; truck 17; rescue 3 and District Chief Steve Zirlott responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
