House Fire on Sherwood Drive; Two Dogs Rescued

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE ON SHERWOOD DRIVE; TWO DOGS RESCUED Mobile Firefighters responded to the report of a house fire located at Sherwood Drive and Chadwick Drive, South Tuesday morning, August 30 at approximately 8:00 a.m. Callers to 9-1-1 reported fire and smoke coming from a side window of the single story residence. When firefighters arrived they reported smoke and flames showing from the structure. While in the structure firefighters recovered two small dogs and brought them outside where firemedics treated them for smoke inhalation and transported them to a local veterinary hospital for further treatment and care. The fire appears to have originated in the kitchen around the stove; fire investigators found a basket of clothes sitting on top of the stove. The cause remains under investigation at this time. Damage is estimated at $20 thousand. No other injuries were reported. Engines 12, 15, 23; truck 10; rescue 14 and 23 and District Chief David Rose responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
