November 3, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2011-80) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE TIMES 2 Mobile Fire-Rescue personnel responded to back to back house fires reported within ten minutes of each other Thursday, November 3. The first fire located at 1301 Creekway Drive, was reported at approximately 11:43 a.m. Firefighters arrived reporting a fire in the kitchen of the single-story, wood frame structure. The owners told fire investigators they returned from doing some grocery shopping, dropped off the groceries and left again. When they returned the second time they encountered smoke and flames inside the structure and called 9-1-1. The fire appears to have originated to the left of the stove where some small appliances once sat. Although the fire was confined to the kitchen, there was smoke damage throughout. The cause is under investigation but all indications are that it was accidental. No injuries were reported in the fire that caused an estimated $10 thousand in damage. Engines 9, 11, 16, truck 24, rescue 7 and District Chief LeAnn Tacon responded. Fire Two The second fire was located at 3400 Winford Drive off Dawes Lake Drive and was reported at approximately 11:52 a.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene they reported fire and smoke coming from the second floor of the two-story, wood frame and brick house. The fire appears to have originated between the first floor ceiling and the floor above. The cause is under investigation at this time. Damage is estimated at $85 thousand. The owners were not home at the time of the fire. One firefighter was treated for a minor head injury after being struck by an object during the course of fighting the fire. Engines 6, 26, 27, truck 5, rescue 26 and acting district chief, Captain Kenny Tillman responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating the fires. ###
