MAN SETS GIRLFRIENDS HOUSE ON FIRE
Mobile fire investigators have arrested, Willie Wright, 60, suspected of setting his girlfriends house on fire early Friday morning, January 6, at approximately 1:57 a.m. The single story structure is located at 258 Gaston Street. When firefighters arrived on the scene they reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure.
Wright and his girlfriend had been involved in a domestic dispute most of the day. The girlfriend told fire investigators she saw Wright leaving the structure just prior to discovering the fire. Wright was arrested and taken to Mobile County Metro Jail charged with 2nd degree arson. Wright is also suspected of breaking out windows and doing other damage to the structure earlier in the evening. There may be other charges as well.
The fire appears to have originated in the bedroom and spread throughout the structure.
The fire caused an estimated $34 thousand in damage to the structure and $7,500 worth of damage to the contents. No injuries were reported.
Engines 3, 8, 14; truck 4; rescue 3 and District Chief LeAnn Tacon responded to the call. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation.
