MARCH FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH
Firefighter Kevin Battiste, like most firefighters, has a part time job on the side. Battiste, who, along with his brother, owns a tree service. On December 26, 2012, the day after the Christmas Tornadoes, he took it upon himself to load up all his equipment and go into the affected areas and assist any of those he could. He walked up to complete strangers and asked if he could start cutting limbs and clearing driveways.
He even helped calm one of the homeowners, who reported his good deeds to AL.com, by clearing some large limbs from her driveway.
He spent all that day and returned the following day to continue the work and he did it all at no charge.
We’re not certain how many people he helped in those two days but we’re fairly certain they appreciated his hard work and dedication to helping others and for this he was honored with the March Firefighter of the Month award which is presented and sponsored by the Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club.
