MOBILE FIRE-RESCUE PROVIDING SAFETY MATERIALS TO AREA SCHOOLS
On Monday, April 2, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Public Education Division will be delivering fire safety education materials to all elementary schools in Baldwin County (approximately 18 schools). The Disney DVD entitled “Wild about Safety” as well as “Fire Facts”, an interactive CD that brings a firefighter into the classroom with fire safety facts and games, and a Mobile Fire-Rescue Activity Book, will be placed in the library of each school as a resource for teachers to teach fire safety.
Mobile Fire-Rescue has already distributed approximately 96 of the DVD’s to schools in Mobile, Monroe and Escambia Counties, with plans to distribute more in Washington County Schools in the future.
Mobile County Schools also received copies of the book “The Tale of Sir Dragon” by Jean Pendzol, which is a story about bullies in school and prevention measures and the Disney DVD “Safety Smart about Fire”; a 12-minute cartoon in 16 different languages that teaches everything a child needs to know about fire escape skills.
The cost of the DVD is approximately $10 each and the activity book is approximately thirty cents each.
The books and DVD’s were purchased with grants and donations from Fireman’s Fund Insurance, Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the Mobile Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
An investment of one penny per child will provide the knowledge every child needs when he or she is faced with a fire emergency at home. The hope for this project is to reduce the number of preventable fire losses in the State of Alabama.
