MOBILE FIRE-RESCUE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES DONATION TO ENHANCE FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION EFFORTS
Fire Safety Materials for Children and Elderly Included in $8,000 Grant Package
MOBILE, Ala. (Oct. 25, 2011) – It is often said that education is our most powerful tool. That also applies to fire safety education, which teaches people how to prevent fires and what to do in the event of an emergency. Mobile Fire-Rescue hopes that by reaching out to the community to teach them about fire prevention, the number of preventable injuries and deaths due to fires will decrease.
Papa John’s Risk Services Corporation is partnering with Fireman’s Fund Insurance to present Mobile Fire-Rescue with an $8,000 donation to fund fire safety educational materials including safety wristbands and educational materials for children.
The Department’s fire safety education project targets children under 14, adults over 65 and high risk groups. The project will produce a number of beneficial results for both the Fire Department and the citizens it protects. First and foremost, they expect a reduction in the number of preventable deaths and injuries in the community. The largest target population of the program is children under the age of 14, so the Department will also emphasize the critical importance of proper supervision.
“This will benefit city firefighters by reducing the toll that needless, preventable deaths take on them, as well as giving them occasions to meet face-to-face with the people they protect,” said Fire Chief Stephen Dean.
Mobile Fire-Rescue officials, firefighters, and executives and employees from Papa John’s Risk Services and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company will come together for a special public event where the grant package will be formally presented on Wednesday, October 26.
“We are honored to be a partner in this grant,” said Brenda Reynolds of Papa John’s Risk Services. “We are thankful for all that firefighters do for us, and we believe this fire safety education program will greatly benefit the community.”
The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to more than 1,800 different departments totaling more than $28 million. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like Risk Services Corp., are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.
