Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MFRD TO MAKE SPECIAL PRESENTATION TO SAINT MARY’S SCHOOL In a special assembly on Friday, December 7 at approximately 9:00 a.m. owners from the area Firehouse Subs Restaurants and representatives from Mobile Fire-Rescue Department will be at Saint Mary’s Catholic School, located at 107 North Lafayette Street, to recognize the over 365 students and staff, for being the winner of the Firehouse Subs, “Check Your Smoke Detector” Contest this year. All students will receive a red fire helmet and free meal cards from Firehouse Subs. The school will receive a case of copy paper and free lunches from Firehouse Subs for the staff. Ten schools in the Mobile area participated in the competition where students were asked to take a reminder card home to encourage parents to check their home smoke alarms. The students returned the cards to their respective schools and Saint Mary’s students returned 71.6% of their cards making them the highest percentage winners. Howard Elementary came in second with 69.9% and Hollinger’s Island placed third with 66.2%. The program is more than a contest, it’s an opportunity to encourage families to take a possible life saving step by ensuring their smoke detector will be working in the event there is a fire. ###
