Sep 27th, 2004

September 27, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2004-25) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MOBILE FIRE-RESCUE TO ISSUE SPECIAL BURN PERMIT Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Officials have issued a special burn permit to Dirt, Inc. located on Cottage Hill Road at Leroy Stevens Road to burn Hurricane Debris. Dirt Inc. is one of the main collection points that the city and Army Corp of Engineers is using for Hurricane Debris. Dirt Inc. will be using a special "Air Curtain Incinerator" to burn the debris. The permit is good for 7 days, at which time they have to apply for another permit or extension. Despite the Alabama Department of Environmental Management Agency's recent lifting of the burn ban in Mobile County, the City of Mobile STILL has a no burn ordinance. Burn Permits issued by the City of Mobile are issued only to businesses and after the Bureau of Fire Prevention has conducted a site survey. Permits cost $500 and require $1 million in insurance. ###
