Mobile Firefighter Dies In the Line of Duty

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@ci.mobile.al.us MOBILE FIREFIGHTER DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY At approximately 6:12 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2000, Mobile Firefighters were dispatched to a wreck with injuries at Cottage Hill Road and Demetropolis Road. Ladder Truck 5, located at 4710 Airport Boulevard at General Bullard Avenue, was dispatched to provide extrication for a possible trapped victim. As Truck 5 was leaving the station to respond and render aid at the scene of the accident, Firefighter Paul Husband, 33, was attempting to board the cab when he slipped and fell under the wheels of truck. Paul was transported to Providence Hospital by Mobile Fire-Rescue Unit 18 and pronounced dead after all attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Paul was a four year veteran of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, graduating from the Fire Academy in October of 1995. The accident is under investigation by the Mobile Police Department and the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department. ###
