Mobile Haz Mat Team Responds to Call In Irvington

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MOBILE HAZ MAT TEAM RESPONDS TO CALL IN IRVINGTON Members of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Hazardous Materials Response Team was called by Mobile County Emergency Management Agency to respond to a package found on the Irvington-Bayou La Batre Highway near Meadow Lane, North, marked "Radioactive". The call was received at approximately 8:44 a.m. on Monday morning, August 20, 2001. Haz Mat Technicians arrived on the scene at approximately 8:54 a.m. and checked for any signs of radiation in the area which none were found. It was then discovered that Global X-Ray and Testing had lost the package off one of their delivery trucks. Global confirmed the package was empty and contained no hazardous materials. The empty package had previously contained a camera for a x-ray machine. The package was returned to Global, the area was checked once again for any signs of radioactivity with none found the road was once again open to traffic. ###
