NO INJURIES AT RED ROOF INN FIRE
Fire destroyed one room at the Red Roof Inn located at 33 I-65 South Beltline Highway on Tuesday, February 18, 2003. A 911 call was made after the fire’s discovery at approximately 8:25 a.m. and firefighters arrived at approximately 8:28 a.m. and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the 2-story, masonry structure. The fire appears to have originated in room 146 located on the first floor of the motel. The fire spread throughout the room of origin and out and up to the balcony above. There was no damage to the other rooms. No injuries were reported and firefighters did save a family pet that was left in an adjacent room but the dog was in no danger from the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. The occupants of the room told Mobile Fire Investigators they had worked all night and came back to the room at approximately 6:00 a.m., showered and left for breakfast at approximately 8:00 a.m. The fire caused an estimated $20 thousand in damage. Engines 12, 15, 23, truck 10, rescue 23 and District Chief Alex Trenier responded to the call.
