Nov 23rd, 2004

November 23, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2004-33) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org NOVEMBER FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH While everyone along the Gulf Coast was preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Ivan, Firefighter-Driver Stanley M. Nations, 51, was doing so as well except, not to his home. Nations was instead preparing the fire station he is assigned to work. The City of Mobile Public Works Department delivered plywood to all Mobile Fire-Rescue Stations to board up windows in preparation of the anticipated arrival of Ivan; However, they didn't place the plywood on the stations. That task was left up to the department to handle. Nations took the initiative to get the station prepared, as well as overseeing other preparations for the building and grounds at the station. He brought in his own tools, cut and fitted the plywood to the windows of Station 19, without being told to do so. His Captain Mack Reed stated that Stanley is an outstanding employee, giving 100% and going above to serve the public. During medical runs he is a big help, using his past paramedic skills, he is a huge comfort to the patients his crew responds to. Nations, who has been with the department for over 15 1/2 years will be recognized by the Pleasant Valley Optimist Club for his efforts on Wednesday morning, November 24 at the Tiny Diny Restaurant. Nations' picture is located on the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department's web site along with this release. ###
