OCTOBER FIREFIGHTERS OF THE MONTH
Firefighter-Driver Randy Holbein, 47, a veteran of over 22 years and Firefighter Joseph Kesterson, 27, a 3 year veteran, are the recipients of the October Firefighter of the Month, presented and sponsored by the Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club. The pair was off duty at a relative’s birthday party on the night of September 9, 2011 when they heard what sounded like a motor vehicle crash nearby. They placed a call to 9-1-1 and ran to the scene to investigate.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Cottage Hill and Schillinger Roads and was caused after a suspected drunk driver struck a vehicle being driven by an 18-year-old teenager head on and then fled the scene. Once on the scene they immediately began to assist the young driver until MFRD units arrived on the scene.
