Apr 5th, 2012

April 5, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2012-22) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org ONE ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED ARSON Mobile Fire Investigators on Tuesday, April 3, arrested a 16 year old male, charging him with attempted arson first-degree. Mobile Police also charged him with first-degree stolen property. The arrest stems from an incident that occurred at a house located in the 7500 block of Old Shell Road at approximately 4:07 p.m. The suspect, Jacquez Jones, 16, apparently got into an argument with the occupants and threatened to set fire to the truck and house. The home was occupied by three adults and two children. According to witnesses, Jones then set a fire on some items in the bed of the truck and on the truck itself. When firefighters arrived on the scene the fire had pretty much burned itself out and there were only small hot spots left in the trucks bed to extinguish. Fire Investigators later determined that Jones parked the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck in close proximity to the structure and started multiple fires on the truck and items in the bed of the truck with the intent of the fire spreading to the house. It was also discovered that the truck was reported stolen. Damage is estimated at $1,500. No injuries were reported. Jones was transported to Mobile County Metro Jail. ###
