One House Destroyed, Two Receive Damage

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org ONE HOUSE DESTROYED, TWO RECEIVE DAMAGE The cause of a fire that destroyed one house and damaged two others is currently under investigation. The fire originated in the house located at 911 Selma Street and was reported at approximately 12:29 a.m. this morning, November 15. When firefighters arrived they reported the single-story, wood frame structure fully involved with fire and spreading to the structures on each side at 909 and 913 Selma Street. Neighbors told fire investigators that the house had been vacant for at least 13 years that they were aware of. Fire damaged two vehicles and the exterior of 909 Selma causing an estimated $10 thousand in damage. 913 Selma received exterior and some interior damage from the fire; causing an estimated $20 thousand in damage. The damage at 911 Selma is estimated at $20 thousand for a total of $50 thousand from all three structures. No injuries were reported. Engines 2, 3, 8, 11; truck 4; rescue 3 and District Chief John Young responded. The MFRD Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
