One Injured in House Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org ONE INJURED IN HOUSE FIRE One man was transported to a local hospital by Mobile Fire-Rescue (MFRD) Firemedics, Sunday morning, September 30, after receiving injuries from a fire at 2916 Blueridge Drive, East. The call was received at approximately 9:13 a.m. and firefighters reported heavy fire coming from the single story, brick residential structure when they arrived. Once inside firefighters discovered fire in the bedroom of the structure and quickly extinguished it. The family, accept for a 49-year-old male occupant, was reportedly at church at the time of the fire. The male occupant was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation and transported by Rescue 6 to USAMC. The injured occupant told investigators he was in the living room when he was alerted by the smoke alarm. He went to investigate and discovered the curtains on fire in one of the bedrooms. He left the room to get something to help extinguish the fire and subsequently inhaled smoke from the fire. The fire appears to have started as a result of an electrical failure. Damage is estimated at approximately $150 thousand. No other injuries were reported. Engines 6, 19, 22; truck 5; rescue 6 and District Chief Steve Zirlott responded. The MFRD's Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
