Portable School Classroom Damaged By Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org PORTABLE SCHOOL CLASSROOM DAMAGED BY FIRE Mobile Firefighters responded to a fire involving a portable classroom at Mae Eanes Middle School, located at 1901 Hurtel Street, on Monday night, May 14, 2001. The fire was reported at approximately 10:38 p.m. and first Mobile Fire-Rescue Units arrived at approximately 10:43 p.m. reporting fire underneath the one story, wood frame portable building. The fire appears to have originated on the North and West End of the portable building. The fire extended throughout the bottom of the exterior and some slight extension into the wall in the Northwest corner area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be suspicious. The fire caused an estimated $6 thousand in damage. No injuries were reported. Engines 9, 11, 16, truck 24, rescue 23 and District 4 Chief Harold Miller responded.
