Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org REMINDER FROM FIRE OFFICIALS OF NO BURNING LAWS Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Officials want to remind those living in the City Limits of Mobile that there has been a Permanent "Burn Ban Ordinance" since 1989. Making it unlawful to have any open burning in the City of Mobile unless permitted by the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department. Also since 1999 the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) has issued a Ban on all open burning in Mobile County during the months of May through September. Because of the ADEM Ban the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department has also banned all open burning in it's Police and Fire Jurisdiction during the above mentioned months. The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department could issue anyone caught burning a ticket for $172.00 and ADEM could also issue a fine in conjunction with that. Mobile Fire-Rescue Department will not issue permits during these months. The ADEM issued Burn Ban affects Mobile, Baldwin, Jefferson, Madison and Shelby Counties in the State of Alabama. ###
