Suspicious Fire In Downtown Nightclub

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org SUSPICIOUS FIRE IN DOWNTOWN NIGHTCLUB Fire Investigators with Mobile Fire-Rescue Department are investigating a fire in a downtown nightclub that appears to be suspicious in origin. A caller reported smoke coming from the masonry structure located at 110 Royal Street at approximately 6:51 a.m. Friday morning, February 16, 2001. Firefighters arrived at approximately 6:55 a.m. and reported light smoke coming from the structure. The building was secure and firefighters had to force entry in a side door in an attached parking garage. The fire appears to have originated in the Northeast corner of the club area. Firefighters contained the fire in the area of origin. There was heavy heat and smoke throughout the club area. The fire's origin appears to be suspicious and still remains under investigation. The name of the club is listed as the Club 110 and owners are listed as John Moore and Mario Ross. Damage is estimated at $30 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 2, 3, 8, truck 4, rescue 3 and District Chief Ricky Brannon responded to the fire. ###
