Vagrants Suspected of Causing House Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org VAGRANTS SUSPECTED OF CAUSING HOUSE FIRE A fire in a house located at 1605 Duval Street was reported at approximately 7:56 a.m. Thursday morning, December 1. When firefighters arrived they reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the vacant single-story, wood frame structure. Fire investigators determined the fire originated in the kitchen sink of the house and spread from there. Investigators believe vagrants trying to keep warm may have started the fire and fled the scene when it began to spread. Person(s) responsible for starting the fire could face charges of Arson 3rd degree. No injuries were reported and the fire caused an estimated $38 thousand in damage. Anyone with information regarding the fire is ask to please call the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Bureau of Fire Prevention on the Arson Hotline at 208-MFRD. Engines 2, 9, 11; truck 24; rescue 24 and District Chief Frank Byrd responded to the fire. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
