White House Approves of Fire Service Flags Half-Staff

Sep 28th, 2001

September 28, 2001 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2001-64) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org WHITE HOUSE APPROVES OF FIRE SERVICE FLAGS HALF-STAFF In order to lessen any confusion from the general public regarding fire station flags still remaining at half-staff after the President called for them to be raised at full-staff here is the reason. The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) received confirmation from the White House on September 27, 2001 that we (the fire service) have their permission to keep Fire station flags at half-staff until October 11, 2001. The confirmation was received from Anthony Mackery, White House Office of Political Affairs through the President. Therefore all Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Fire Stations will leave flags at half-staff until October 11, 2001. Also firefighters will continue to wear the black mourning ribbons on their badges until that date as well. ###
