Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at 10:10 a.m. to a report of a residential fire at 264 North Ann Street in Mobile, Ala., Monday, July 8, 2024.
Units arrived in about 3 minutes to find light smoke showing from the eaves of a brick and cinder block building, with darker smoke visible from two open doors on the side. The single-story structure was divided into a business, 264 Event Center, and into 3 apartments housing 2 people.
Crews entered to extinguish the fire and to do searches to make sure no one was in the building. Occupants had already evacuated, and no one was found inside. Hot spots were cooled.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental from an electrical source. No injuries were reported.
