Suspicious Circumstances Surrounding Vehicle Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING VEHICLE FIRE Mobile Fire Investigators are currently investigating the cause of a vehicle fire that appears to have started under suspicious circumstances located at 1714 Colonial Oaks Drive. The fire occurred early Tuesday morning, November 8. The fire was reported at approximately 4:17 a.m. reporting a vehicle on fire threatening a structure. Firefighters arrived on the scene reporting a Hummer H2 fully engulfed with fire and sitting approximately twenty-five feet from the residence. Firefighter quickly extinguished the blaze, preventing its spread to the structure. The owner of the vehicle told fire investigators that he had parked the vehicle around 3 a.m. and had not been experiencing any issues with the vehicle. The cause remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $28,100.00. There were no injuries reported in the incident. Fire Investigators are asking anyone that may have some helpful information regarding this fire to please call the Arson Hotline at 251-208-MFRD. Engines 15, 18, 22; truck 10; rescue 1 and Acting district chief, Captain Mack Reed responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
