Trailer Fire on Andrew Road

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org TRAILER FIRE ON ANDREW ROAD Firefighters responded to the report of a trailer fire Wednesday, August 17, located at 5641 Andrew Road, Lot 4. The call was received at approximately 12:29 p.m. Firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the trailer upon arrival. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly. The occupant, Jamie Maples, 37 and her 16-month-old son escaped without apparent injury. Maples told fire investigators that she was asleep and felt her son crawl over her which woke her up. She then saw smoke and discovered fire in the hallway outside her bedroom at which point she took her son and escaped. The fire appears to have started in the child's bedroom near the bed and spread into the hallway and living room. The fire caused an estimated $5 thousand in damage and the cause is currently under investigation. Engines 6, 7, 19; truck 5; rescue 7 and District Chief LeAnn Tacon responded. Theodore-Tillman's Corner Volunteers also responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
