VACANT HOUSE FIRE CAUSE INTENTIONAL
Mobile Firefighters were called to a fire in a vacant house located at 660 Palm Street early this Tuesday morning, November 20, 2001. A neighbor discovered the fire and reported it at approximately 3:58 a.m. Firefighters first began arriving at approximately 4:02 a.m. reporting some smoke showing from the one-story, wood frame with brick veneer structure. Firefighters discovered two small fires, which had just about extinguished themselves in the living room and bathroom. The fires caused minor surface damage and did not extend any further than the area of origin. Neighbors told Mobile Fire Investigators that they believed drug users/dealers were using the vacant structure. They also reported seeing some teenagers in the building earlier in the day. Investigators found evidence that the two small fires were intentionally set. Estimated damage is $5 thousand. No injuries were reported. Units were on the scene until approximately 5:11 a.m. Engines 12, 15, 18, truck 10, rescue 18 and District 3 Chief Don Meyers responded.
