Mobile Fire-Rescue Department firefighters and rescue technicians were dispatched at 10:57 a.m. for a report of a watercraft in distress on the area of the 1900 block of River Road in Mobile, Alabama.
Personnel arrived in the area to find an unoccupied boat overturned in the water of Dog River with no one near it and items floating nearby. The vessel was mostly submerged. Witnesses had told dispatchers they had seen the watercraft earlier with a single male aboard.
The watercraft sank below the water as crews from MFRD began looking using boats. Divers from other agencies arrived as MFRD units continued to work their grid search and by air with a drone.
As more resources arrived, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency assumed command of the incident, and MFRD units returned to service.
District 1 Chief, Engines and Water Rescues 8 and 20, Engine 16, Rescues 23 and 24, Fire Boat 2, and Car 83 were dispatched to the call.
