As Executive Director of Build Mobile, Shayla Beaco delights not only in planning, but in providing Mobile’s neighborhoods the tools they need to see their communities reach their full potential. In this leadership role, Shayla manages multiple divisions that work to ensure the safety and quality of life for Mobilians as they navigate the city. Build Mobile divisions include Historic Development, Building Inspections, and Planning and Zoning.

Shayla began her career with the City of Mobile in the Urban Planning department. After having served the City for 6 years, she was tapped by the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce to serve as their Local Affairs Director. In this capacity, she acted as the City and County liaison to the Mobile business community. In 2013, she returned to the City of Mobile to pursue a new leadership opportunity as the Director of Community Affairs. She was quickly promoted to Senior Director of City Planning in 2016, and later that year was assigned to her current position as the Executive Director of Build Mobile.

Born and raised in Mobile, Shayla Jones Beaco attended McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and graduated from Spring Hill College with a Bachelor’s in Political Science. Shayla went on to obtain her Master’s in City Planning at Auburn University.

Shayla is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., having pledged the Iota-Nu Chapter in the Winter of 1996. Shayla is also a 2010 graduate of Leadership Mobile and was recognized in 2011 as one of Mobile Bay’s 40 Under 40. 

Shayla and her family attend Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She and her husband Rory are the proud parents of two children, Shelby Grace, 13 and Brooks Joseph, 9.
