Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@ci.mobile.al.us ATTEMPTED ARSON AT BAY HAAS BUILDING Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Fire Investigators and Mobile Police Investigators are investigating an Attempted Arson at the Bay Haas Building, located at 1150 Government Street, this morning, Monday, September 17, 2000. An employee made the discovery at approximately 7:05 a.m. and notified authorities. Apparently person or persons attempted to set a fire in the first floor "Child Support" courtroom over the weekend but were not successful. Molotov cocktails, along with other evidence, have been removed to be analyzed by investigators. The would be arsonist broke out a plate glass window from the outside and threw the Molotovs, along with other evidence, and attempted the arson. There was no actual fire in the building. Investigators have no suspects at this time. Anyone with information should contact Mobile Fire-Rescue Department at 208-7484 or Crimestoppers at 208-7000 with any information that could lead to an arrest. The charge would be Attempted Arson 2nd Degree. ###
