Carol Street Residential Fire

10:11 a.m.—Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at 8:47 a.m. for a report of flames visible from a residence in the 800 block of Carol Street just outside of Mobile, Alabama, Saturday, March 16, 2024.

While en route, Engine 26 reported it would be a working fire and additional units were dispatched. Upon arrival, firefighters noted heavy flames and smoke showing from a single-story brick structure with boarded-up windows that appeared to be vacant.

Units immediately performed searches for any victims inside and began extinguishment efforts. No one was found inside. The fire had spread throughout the house and into the attic. Eventually, crews brought the fire under control.

As of 10:11 a.m., personnel are still on scene extinguishing hotspots and expect to be there until all fire risk is mitigated.

Districts 3 and 4 chiefs, Engines 26, 11, 18 and 22, Truck 27, Rescue 26, Car 80 and Rehab 1 responded.

A bystander at the scene reported having heard an explosion in the area at the time of the fire, but no explosions have yet been confirmed. The fire is under investigation at this time. No injuries were reported.
