Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at about 7:20 p.m. for a report of residential fire in the 6400 block of Cedar Key Court in Mobile, Alabama, Sunday night, May 5, 2024.
Units arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the right rear corner of a two-story, wood-frame home. Residents were outside the structure with their dog. Three cats were still inside.
Firefighters made entry and were able to get the fire under control, but the building suffered significant damage. Primary and secondary searches were clear. Firefighters were able to successfully rescue the cats.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, involving cooking appliances.
