Gulf Terra Drive Residential Fire

Aug 14th, 2019

MOBILE, Ala. – On Wednesday, August 14th, at approximately 12:51 hours, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies were dispatched to the 2400 block of Gulf Terra Drive North for reports of a residential fire in the area. Neighbors described visible flames and smoke at the rear of a home. Upon arrival on scene, fire personnel confirmed heavy amounts of thick, black smoke pouring from the eaves of a single-story, wood-frame residential structure.

At 12:56 hours, additional companies and recovery teams were dispatched to the scene to assist. Crews immediately began fire suppression and search & rescue operations. Teams made entry into the home in an effort to locate the source of the fire. Flames and heavy smoke were discovered in the attic and quickly extinguished. Once the fire was properly doused, heated gases and toxic smoke were horizontally ventilated from the home. Search teams conducted a thorough sweep of the property interior, discovering no patients/victims inside.

No civilians or fire personnel sustained injuries during the incident. Fire Investigators reviewed the scene and conducted a brief but detailed investigation. The cause of the fire has been determined accidental, following a lightning strike to the roof of the home. The home suffered significant fire and water damage to the attic and smoke damage throughout.
