Fire Chief Promotes Two to Deputy Chief

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE CHIEF PROMOTES TWO TO DEPUTY CHIEF Fire Chief, Steve Dean announced Friday, January 20, 2006 the promotion of District Chiefs Richard (Ricky) F. Brannon, 48, and Mark A. Hansberry, 41, to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief. Brannon, who is also a Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, has been with the department for over 27 years and has been at the District Chief level for approximately 12 years. Hansberry, who is a Paramedic and Registered Nurse, has been with the department for over 17 years and has been at the District Chief level for almost 5 years. Both Chiefs will be given assignments over seeing the daily operations of departmental divisions. Deputy Chief is one of the highest-ranking positions on the department (only Chief and Assistant Chief are above Deputy) and marks the highest rank achieved by an African-American in department history. The department now has four Deputy Chief positions. The promotions will become effective Saturday, January 21, 2006. ###
