Firefighters Respond to Two Overnight House Fires

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO TWO OVERNIGHT HOUSE FIRES Firefighters are clearing the scene of a house fire that occurred this morning, Thursday, August 14, located on Forest Oaks Dr, the second of two overnight fires. The fire was reported at approximately 2:41 a.m. and when firefighters arrived on the scene they reported heavy smoke and fire coming through the roof of the vacant single story, brick structure. The cause of the fire, that caused an estimated $50 thousand in damage, is under investigation. No injuries were reported. Engines 1, 15, 18; truck 5; rescue 1 and District Chief Alex Trenier responded. Firefighters also responded to a structure fire located on Jessie Street on Wednesday night, August 13 at approximately 10:30 p.m. Firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the single story, wood frame structure upon arrival. While assisting fire crews obtaining a water supply, firemedics were directed by bystanders to the 57 year old male occupant, who was sitting at the corner. Firemedics discovered he had second degree burns to the lower leg. He was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center for treatment. The fire appears to have originated on the front porch of the residence but no cause has been determined as of right now. Engines 12, 14, 21; truck 17; rescues 14, 18 and District Chief Alex Trenier responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigations. ###
