Jan 30th, 2006

January 30, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2006-06) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org JANUARY FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Firefighter of the Month for January, Firefighter J. Thomas "Tom" Gambill, 34, has been praised for his desire and dedication for consistently going above and beyond his required duties. What makes him different than most is he does so with the human element involved. He takes the time to do the little things that make a difference in someone's life. Firefighter Tom Gambill was nominated because of call he made recently where a woman had lost her purse in a drainage ditch. After gaining access Gambill volunteered to crawl into the hole and retrieve her purse along with her cell phone, credit cards and other valuables. It wasn't a pleasant task but he did it without hesitation and the woman was very grateful to get her belongings back. Gambill joined the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department in November of 2002. He is presently assigned as a firefighter on Engine 23, Shift 2, at the Sirmon Station located at 2711 Airport Blvd. In recognition of his enthusiasm and dedication to the job, the Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club who sponsors the monthly event honored Firefighter Tom Gambill at a breakfast on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at the Tiny Diny Restaurant. ###
