MOBILE FIRE-RESCUE TAKES DELIVERY OF NEW CPR EQUIPMENT TO SUPPORT RESCUE EFFORTS
Thanks to the award of a National Fire Act grant Mobile Fire-Rescue has taken delivery of thirty-seven LUCAS® 3 Chest Compression System devices to better perform CPR in the field and will soon have one of these lifesaving tools on board every fire truck in the department.
Up until now only rescue trucks had the devices on board but now with this acquisition all trucks on the department will have them.
LUCAS® 3 is a mechanical chest compression system that provides compressions at a rate and depth that are consistent with current American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Both portable and quick to apply, the device works by providing continuous high-quality chest compressions which are critical to maintaining blood flow to save a sudden cardiac arrest patient’s brain, heart and vital organs.
The key to cardiac arrest survival is consistent, high quality CPR.
While the device is in use on a patient it can free up personnel to allow them to focus on other critical emergency patient care on scene or while in route to the hospital.
Studies also show that effectiveness of manual chest compressions can drop rapidly, often only after one minute, due to rescuer fatigue.
The total cost of the devices were $692 thousand dollars.
