George Talbot serves as Director of Communications and External Affairs for the City of Mobile.

George joined the administration of Mayor Sandy Stimpson upon taking office in November 2013. In his current capacity, George serves as the administration’s senior spokesman and chief liason to local, state and federal elected officials. He also oversees the city’s economic development activities, community relations and legislative initiatives as well as the Mobile Film Office.

George is responsible for developing and implementing the administration’s comprehensive communications plan, including local, national and international media relations, writing news releases, hosting news conferences, crisis communications, maintaining the City’s website, speechwriting and maintaining a robust social media presence.

Prior to joining the administration, George served as an award-winning writer, reporter and columnist for the Press-Register newspaper of Mobile and AL.com, its on-line affiliate. Additionally, he worked as a featured political analyst on local radio and television, and a sought after source for national and international news outlets reporting on events in Alabama or throughout the Gulf Coast.

George’s many honors include the Society of Professional Journalist’s Green Eyeshade Award for Excellence in Journalism and multiple statewide awards from the Alabama Press Association. He's been a part of reporting teams that won multiple awards from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, and was one of Alabama’s most followed news reporters on Twitter.

George came to the Press-Register in 2000 as a business reporter. He was named the publication's political editor in 2008, and held that role until October 2012, when he was named as the lead state and national political reporter for the Alabama Media Group.

He is a Co-Founder of the Gulf Coast Reporters League, a team of reporters from Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi that has published three books spotlighting the significant and widespread aerospace and defense activities along the Gulf Coast.

A native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Rhodes College in Memphis. He is married with two children and has served as an elder, usher and Sunday school teacher in his church.
