The Mobile Museum of Art serves as the art museum of the City of Mobile and the South Alabama area. The museum is located in Langan Park and recently underwent a $15 million expansion to triple its size to 95,000 square feet.
The museum's mission is to provide a place where people enrich their lives through interaction with the visual arts in thought-provoking and creative ways that nourish and delight the mind and spirit. For the fundamental purpose of education, the museum collects, conserves, exhibits, interprets and researches art.
The Museum:
* meets this community's needs in the visual arts by offering a permanent collection of over 6,000 art objects spanning two thousand years of cultural history
* provides changing exhibitions which feature a wide range of artists, media, subjects, and time periods of art history
* offers a wide range of programs to the public in studio art classes, workshops, films, lectures, festivals, tours and activities for all ages and interest levels
* provides scholarly art activity through publications, research, conversation and educational programming
