MOBILE FIRE DEPT ACCREDITATION

Mobile?s Fire Department will soon become the first accredited Fire Department in the state and one of only 65 accredited departments in the country.

Mobile?s Fire Rescue Department just completed the first stage toward accreditation. Evaluators spent four days in Mobile touring facilities, conducting interviews, evaluating equipment and policies to determine whether met qualifications to become an accredited department.

Evaluators will make their recommendation to the Board of Commissioners in August 2003 when they meet in Dallas, Texas.

The mission of the Commission on Fire Accreditation International is to assist the fire and emergency service agencies throughout the world in achieving excellence through self assessment and accreditation in order to provide continuous quality improvement and enhancement of service they deliver to their communities.

With this accreditation Mobile will become one of the few cities in the country that has both an accredited fire and police department.
