A Message from Mayor Stimpson - August 28th

It is 8 p.m. on Friday, August 28th, 2020 and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.
Today, the Mobile County Health Department reports 12,076 COVID-19 cases an increase of 62 cases since yesterday's report. To review the daily report click here.
The City of Mobile entered a partnership with Alabama Power to replace all city streetlights with LED fixtures. The LED lights are brighter and require less maintenance than the current lights. To date we have completed 2,161 out 26,000 total lights. This project is expected to take around 16 months and be completed in December of 2021.
We worked with Alabama Power to prioritize installations, with the initial work beginning in Africatown. I had an opportunity to ride through Africatown this week to see the difference. We are grateful for the continued partnership with AL Power and their willingness to make such a substantial investment in our city. This much-needed upgrade will make Mobile safer and improve the quality of life.
Congratulations to the new City of Mobile Fire Chief Jeremy Lami. An 18-year veteran of MFRD, Chief Lami has served the department with passion and honor. He played an instrumental role in helping our department achieve an ISO-1rating, which can improve property values and reduce insurance. We can be confident that MFRD will continue to provide exceptional service and protection for our citizens under the leadership of Chief Lami.
Every morning I read a passage from J. Maxwell's Leadership Promise for Everyday. In this morning's entry, Maxwell talks about influencing others through actions instead of words. At the City of Mobile, our administrative team is taking action every day to make Mobile a safer, more business and family friendly city. It is our hope that through this action, we will influence growth and prosperity for our citizens.
