A Message from Mayor Stimpson - December 9

Dec 9th, 2020

Posted in: MayorCOVID-19

Good evening,

It is 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.

Today, the Mobile County Health Department reports 21,595 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 218 cases. To review MCHD's detailed report, click here. Please note that the increase in COVID-19 cases observed today may be due in part to increased or delayed urgent care reporting over the past weekend.

Tomorrow the City of Mobile's Parks and Recreation Department and Chabad of Mobile will be hosting a "Glow in the Dark Menorah Lighting" at the Mobile Convention Center to celebrate the beginning of Chanukah. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature Chanukah treats, local officials, live music and glow-in-the-dark prizes. To keep everyone safe, masks and social distancing will also be required.

Come out and discover new traditions in Mobile! You can find more information by clicking here.

Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., the City of Mobile will host the final ArtWalk of 2020. We will also be hosting a virtual ArtWalk Event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. that you can find on the ArtWalk Facebook Page. These monthly events are a great way to support downtown businesses and experience the artists that bring so much life to our City while still practicing social distancing. I hope to see you Downtown Friday evening!

In the passage I read this morning from "Leadership Promises for Every Day," author J. Maxwell notes that a person's ability to make things happen through others depends entirely on their ability to lead them. He writes that "all leaders have two things in common: They are going somewhere, and they are able to persuade others to go with them. The greater one's influence, the greater the leadership potential."

I would personally add that since persuasion is a key part of influence, you have a much better chance of influencing people if they respect and like you.

Sleep tight,

Mayor Sandy Stimpson
