City Council Meeting Recap – June 6, 2023

MOBILE, AL – The Mobile City Council approved a $2.9M contract with Goodwyn Mills Cawood, LLC for design services regarding renovations and additions at the Mobile Civic Center. This comes after months of discussion regarding various aspects such as budget, timeline, potential challenges and the overall needs of the Mobile Civic Center and the residents of Mobile.
 
Moving forward with the Broad Street Phase IV improvement project, the Council authorized a contract with Volkert, Inc. for design and engineering services along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ave. from Butchers Lane to Beauregard Street. The project includes resurfacing and striping, replacement of sidewalks, curbs, gutters and inlets, as well as signal and pedestrian lighting upgrades along with bike lanes. This project is the next phase of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant project.
 
The candidate qualifying period for the upcoming Special Election to fill the open Mobile City Council District 6 seat officially began today. Other important special election dates include: 

  • June 20th - Last day to qualify
  • June 28th - 1st day to vote absentee
  • July 10th - Last day to register to vote
  • July 18th - Last day to receive Absentee application by mail
  • July 20th - Last day to hand deliver an Absentee application & Last day to vote Absentee in person
  • July 24th - Last day to apply for & submit an Emergency Absentee Ballot
  • July 25th - ELECTION DAY

 
A run-off election will be held on August 22nd if necessary.
