City Council Meeting Recap – May 23, 2023

May 25th, 2023

Posted in: General News

MOBILE, AL – The Mobile City Council authorized an agreement with the City of Semmes regarding Semmes’ annexation of eight parcels of land on Schillinger Road. This is in exchange for the temporary halt of any annexation attempts in Mobile’s police jurisdiction until after the planned annexation vote is held, or until November 1, 2023.

An ordinance was passed making it illegal for anyone to possess, store, sell, or use fireworks within the city limits with minor exceptions. The ban is exempt four days out of the year: January 1, July 3 and 4, and December 31. Other exceptions include giving fire officials the authority to suspend the outdoor use of all fireworks within city limits if weather-related conditions exist, such as a drought, which would cause the use of fireworks to pose a danger to the public.

An agreement between the City of Mobile and the Board of School Commissioners of Mobile County was authorized to retain services from the Gulf Coast Technology Center to assess, monitor and link juveniles demonstrating negative and/or violent behavior with community agencies that provide enhanced education, behavioral and socialization skills.
