Council Committee to Meet on Attorney Agreement

A Council Committee will meet on Monday, November 27th at 10:30 AM in the Council Conference Room on the 9th Floor of the South Tower in Government Plaza.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a proposed agreement or contract resolution with the newly appointed City Council Attorney Wanda Cochran. The committee will include: John Williams, Bess Rich, and C.J. Small.

Earlier this month, the Council selected Wanda J. Cochran to serve as their new lead legal counsel advising them on city business throughout the new term.

Cochran specializes in the field of local government law, including planning and zoning, historical preservation, cable television franchising, telecommunications, and non-ERISA pensions. In her extensive practice, she has represented and consulted with attorneys, individuals, non-profits, city councils, planning commissions, boards of adjustment and architectural review boards.

She is a past president of the Alabama Municipal Lawyers Association and has been certified as a Local Government Fellow by the International Municipal Lawyers Association as having demonstrated excellence in the field of local government law. She has also been qualified as an expert witness in municipal law in federal court. Cochran is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law in Boston and has been licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama since 1984.
