Mobile, Ala. — If you want a behind-the-scenes look at your city government, applications are now open for the ninth cohort of the City of Mobile’s C251: Citizens Academy.

Launched in 2021, C251: Citizens Academy gives Mobilians an inside look at city government and how local leaders make decisions and set priorities. During the six-week program, participants engage directly with department heads and senior City staff through tours, demonstrations, and interactive presentations that highlight the services and operations shaping daily life in Mobile.

“The C251 Citizens Academy has been an outstanding program, and it’s encouraging to see so many citizens engaged and eager to learn more about what’s happening across the city,” Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said. “As a new mayor, I’ve been learning firsthand just how much work our employees are doing every day. I’m grateful to our Community Affairs Department for creating a program that opens the doors of city government and helps strengthen our direct engagement with Mobilians.”

The C251 spring session will include weekly classes running from March 11 through April 15. Participants will engage with City leaders across a wide range of focus areas, including legal and community affairs, administrative services, neighborhood development, finance, public works, and public safety. The application window for the next cohort will remain open through Friday, Feb. 20.

The program is free, but space is limited in this class to 45 members so apply today to reserve your spot. Applications and additional information are available at: https://tinyurl.com/pu4mhrvd.
