City of Mobile accepting applications for new C251: Citizens Academy class
Mobile, Ala. — Applications are now open for the next cohort of the City of Mobile’s C251: Citizens Academy, which will run its fall sessions from Sept. 10 to Oct. 15, 2025.
Since its establishment in 2021, the C251: Citizens Academy has offered Mobilians an opportunity to learn more about their municipal government and its various departments directly from our team leaders. It’s an easy and fun way to become more informed and empowered about local government.
This engaging six-week program provides residents an in-depth look at city government through tours, hands-on demonstrations and presentations from senior staff. Participants get an insider’s view of how city departments function, and we encourage them to get more involved in the community. The program has helped the city improve its processes because of the feedback we get from participants.
The application period for the fifth cohort of the C251: Citizens Academy opened today, and applications will be accepted through Tuesday, Aug. 26. Members of the upcoming cohort will learn about the following City of Mobile departments: Legal & Community Affairs, Administrative Services, Neighborhood Development and Finance, Public Works, and Public Safety.
Only 40 spots are available for participants, so interested Mobilians should register today. Registration is open at http://bit.ly/46NfrVo. Learn more about the program at cityofmobile.org/citizens-academy.
If you were previously on a waiting list for the C251: Citizens Academy, please contact Deputy Director of Community Affairs Lesley D. Walker at (251) 208-7801 or by email at Lesley.walker@cityofmobile.org.
