Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile joined nonprofit and private-sector partners Monday morning to celebrate the opening of Live Oak Trace, a new affordable senior housing community in West Mobile.

Developed in partnership with Aletheia House and The Morrow Companies, the $19.8 million project will create 56 apartment homes for residents ages 55 and older. The development is part of the City of Mobile’s larger effort to expand affordable housing through strong nonprofit and private partnerships.

“Our seniors deserve safe, high-quality homes they can afford in the communities they helped build, and this project offers that to seniors in West Mobile,” Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said. “I’m grateful to Aletheia House, The Morrow Companies, our financial partners and all of the city staff members whose work behind the scenes is helping make developments like this possible across Mobile.”

The development of Live Oak Trace was funded by the City of Mobile’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocations, with additional financial support from Regions Bank, the Alabama Housing Finance Authority, and Hope Credit Union. Once leasing begins, the Mobile Housing Authority (MHA) will also provide rental assistance to qualifying residents through housing choice vouchers.

“There is a clear need for more affordable housing across Alabama, and it’s encouraging to see meaningful progress in Mobile because of partnerships and developments like Live Oak Trace,” said Chris Retan, Executive Director of Aletheia House. “We’re proud to work alongside the City of Mobile and our other partners to help bring this project to life.”

Each apartment at Live Oak Trace features two bedrooms and two bathrooms and includes refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, microwaves, and washer/dryer connections. Other amenities include a clubhouse, fitness center, computer room, gazebo, picnic area and enhanced security features.

Applications for residency are available at the property, located at 6275 Overlook Road. Additional information and photographs are also available at morrowapartments.net. For any additional questions, please call (251) 721-2684 or email liveoaktrace@morrowapts.com

The Live Oak Trace development is part of the City of Mobile’s broader effort to expand affordable housing opportunities. By 2028, city-supported initiatives are expected to deliver more than 600 new affordable housing units through a mix of single-family, apartment, and townhome developments.

These projects are supported by approximately $86 million in federal funding, including ARPA funds and funding from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. Through public- private partnerships and work with non-profits, these projects are expected to generate nearly $215 million in total investment in affordable housing developments across Mobile.
