Mobile, Ala. — Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis and District 2 City Councilwoman Samantha Ingram will join project partners and community stakeholders at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, to celebrate the first homes built through the City’s Housing Improvement Program (HIP).
The ribbon-cutting marks the first in a series of affordable homes to be built through the HIP initiative, a public-private partnership dedicated to revitalizing the historic Campground area of Mobile. The program’s goal is to build 30 affordable homes across 30 blocks in the neighborhood, reducing blight and bringing families back to the area.
“Creating safe, affordable housing options isn’t just a quality-of-life issue—it directly impacts economic development and public safety in our neighborhoods,” Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said. “The HIP is already making an impact in the Campground, and I want to see where else we can continue making these types of strategic investments.”
The first home built through the HIP was constructed by Heritage Homes and will be purchased by a Mobile Police officer. Two additional homes have been completed as part of the program, and others are currently in the design and permitting process. Figures Construction and Development is overseeing the program.
Members of the media are invited to tomorrow’s ribbon-cutting to see the first homes being built through the HIP and to learn more about the program. For more information, please contact Media Relations Manager Dale Liesch at (251) 508-8532.
