Mobile, Ala. — Continued progress on Complete Streets projects in downtown Mobile will require an extended lane closure on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. and a new block closure on St. Louis Street.
To accommodate the progress on the St. Louis Street corridor, the block between Washington Ave. and Dearborn Street has been closed. The intersection of Washington Ave. and St. Louis Street is fully closed, while Dearborn Street will remain open at St. Louis to allow access to homes and businesses.
As construction continues to move east, the previously closed section of St. Louis Street from Broad Street to Bayou Street will be reopening this week. The intersection at Scott Street will remain closed.
On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, the ongoing installation of a waterline is requiring the extension of an existing lane closure. The closure, which previously ran from St. Charles Ave. to Patton Ave., has been extended to Peach Street. Traffic will shift to the north side of the roadway in front of Franklin Primary Health Center and continue through the intersection of St. Charles Ave.
The traffic signals at Cedar Ave. and Peach Street have been set to flash yellow on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., with stop signs added to the side streets. All intersections will remain open except when waterline work crosses them, at which point temporary signed detours will be in place.
Residents and businesses in the area will continue to have access to their homes and driveways, except for brief periods when the new waterline is being installed across individual properties. Our Programs and Project Management team will coordinate directly with property owners during those times.
